Happy Independence Day!!

So, we went up north (only an hour north :) and stayed in a cabin over the 4th, which was....interesting. The "cabin" was actually a double-wide trailer, and would not be considered clean. Most everything in the "cabin" was uncomfortable and half-broken---and made the term "toddler-proof" very much just an ideal. The first day, we missed the napping window so it was a long day already, then we ended up at the Waupun Urgent Care for some crazy infected spider/mosquito bites on poor Taylor's body. They were swollen to the size of golf balls and getting redder by the minute. So we left with an antibiotic prescription, Caladryl, Motrin, and Zyrtec. So after the first day I was thinking the rest of the weekend was going to be a bust, but she ended up sleeping for 12 hours/night and taking 2-1/2 hour naps each day----and since her not sleeping was my main fear, I was much more relaxed!
The rest of the weekend was just running around outside, going into town for ice cream and parks, and, eventually, swimming. Taylor talked about going "swimeem" all weekend, and since the town we stayed in is literally surrounded by a lake (as well as correctional institutions, but I digress), I assumed there would be at least one public beach.....there was not. So I finally found out the town has a public pool which we went to and that was probably Taylor's most favorite hour of the weekend :) They had a big pool that was beach-entry and never got above 2 feet deep so she was able to run around like crazy and she had a blast!! So, needless to say, we won't be going back to Fox Lake anytime soon, but Taylor had a good time and she at least got one little family vacation as an only child before her world turns upside down with Junior Pants coming into the picture :)

  1. Looks like she had a blast! The top picture is a great family photo, but why do you look like a runway model when you're supposed to be having a baby next month? I can't believe about the spider bites. WTF? How totally random. I'm glad she recovered quickly and slept well anyway. And the cabin? Again, WTF?

I'm glad she loves swimeem so much. Sasha also loves the "wahwer," so we'll have to take a lake vacation together. Because I, too, love swimeem.

  2. Junior Pants! Love his name. Well, sorry Fox Lake was a bust, but that pool sounded perfect for Taylor. And it looks like the weather was cooperating! Take care. And I agree with Wisco's comment: why do you look like a runway model when you're having a baby next month? Have you gained enough weight? the concerned auntie asks. Alo.

  3. Oh, trust me, I've gained more than enough weight already!! I have learned ways to strategically place the Bug when having my picture taken to hide most of the excess body weight :)

  4. In the picture where you look like a model, Taylor's curls are so wild and cute! Good thing you found that town pool, sounds like it was the perfect thing for Tay. Looks like she had fun!

  5. Whoa, what's with the reaction to the bites? Does she have allergies to them? Allergies to mosquitoes in Wisconsin would be a little tough. Well, glad it was able to be treated just fine. Great picture of the fam!
