For months, Taylor has demanded I sing "Sunshine!!" to her every night when she goes to bed. I've always sang that song off and on since she was a newborn because it always makes me think of Grandma Martinek, who sang it to me many times over the years. At Taylor's age, you realize they are listening, but you're never really sure how closely :) But then last week, when I put her to bed she said, "No, Mommy, I sing it to you!". I thought, ummm....okay, we'll see what comes out of her mouth, and sure enough if she didn't sing a perfect toddler rendition of "You are My Sunshine"!! It was heart melting, and so the next day before swimming lessons, I was able to grab my camera as she was belting it out again.......well, truth be told she now busts it out ALL the time!! The other day when we were in the check-out line at the grocery store she happened to steal a glance at a sun balloon in the distant floral department and threw her head back as if she was alone in the room and starting belting out the song. Pretty much everyone in every line stopped to watch the American Idol audition happening in my arms.........luckily, everyone was very kind and I might even venture to say Taylor made a couple people's day that afternoon :)

OMG, it brings tears to my eyes. My Mom sang that song to me too. (And I sing it to my cats and dog!!) I'm glad she sang it to you, Carrie. And the Bug is making a name for herself!! Rock on', sweet Bug. Alo.

ReplyDeleteHow sweet! She really knows the song. I also sing it to the Bub often and think about Grandma every time.
ReplyDeleteShe's growing up so fast I can't believe my eyes. And ears!
Ha, ha, ha!! She is so funny. Really, she must be enrolled in things where she can perform and be the center of attention: drama, singing, etc. I love the grocery store incident.
ReplyDeleteGrandma left a legacy for sure, because that is also my association.
She is a performer through and through. OH, wait, the camera's on? I guess I'll keep on singing and put some DRAMA into it this time!! She's definitely going to be the star of the drama department. And heaven help us if they put on a MUSICAL!! I love the fact that "You Are My Sunshine" is being passed down through the family. My memory of it is Grandma singing it to my sick little sister Mary Kay when she'd wake up in the middle of the night with a headache. Grandma sang that to her a lot cause Mary Kay requested it.
